In each round, there are a total of fifty archers participating in the game who fire arrows at the target. Every archer fires 30 arrows each at a target 50 yards away.
Once the archers finish fitting the target Teer officials count the total number of arrows hit to the target. Once the Teer officials have the number for the total arrows hit the target, they take the last two digits of the numbers as the winning number for the round.
For example: If 649 arrows hit the target in a round then the winning number will be 49.
The winners of the game will be those who put their bet on the correct winning number.
After each round, the results are declared immediately.

History Of Shilong Teer Game Legality?
The Shillong Teer game was not always legal.
Until 1981 this kind of betting was illegal, and all the bets were placed underground. During that time local goons had full control over this kind of betting market which was not good for the State of Meghalaya. So the State decided to legalize the game in 1981 under the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act to get rid of goons, as well as to make money by taxing the sport.
Actually, the Archery is rooted in Meghlays culture. During the British Raj, the Khasi community of Meghalaya defended their land with their archers but post-independence archery became illegal which suddenly made the archers useless so local committees came up with different archery sports to help the archers with financial needs which later got transformed into an underground betting business. So like I said earlier, to deal with this underground betting issue the State decided to legalize the game in 1981.
So now it is completely a legal batting game where individuals can bet on the game, and can get rewarded with prize money if they are able to predict the results.
