Just like any other Act in the country, the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax (Amendment) Rules, 1982 Act is an Act which was introduced by the State of Meghalaya to legalize as well as manage the transactions related to the game of TEER in the State.
The game commonly known as ‘Teer’, throughout the state is mostly based on a lottery system where lucky numbers are drawn from the game of archery.
The game of Teer as well as the betting scenario associated with it is part of an older culture in the State. Hence, in the year 1982 the Act was amended and the game was made a state recognized practice.
The Act mainly defines the various terms and their definition related to the game of TEER and all parties that may be associated with it during the whole transaction.
It explains in detail the various terms associated with the game as well as outlines the rules and regulations governing the game for fair practice of the game.
The Act governs all technical and legal aspects of the game, and is used to fix or come to legal solutions in cases where there may be discrepancies or unlawful practices, both CIVIL or CRIMINAL in nature.
Moreover, the Act also recognizes third party entities which are part of the larger association and gives them legal rights to carry out the dedicated duties for a fair and smoother transaction.
